[T3] Breather cap

Our starter hasn’t worked since “the incident”, cold, warm, or hot. I’ve had a hot start relay in place for over a year and even still it’d sometimes not turn over after a long highway run in the summer. I tried to remove the relay before the trip we’re on and with the relay out, the starter wouldn’t do anything at all, just like now. Relay and starter both click, but that’s it, even when jumping starter terminals with a screwdriver.

The sounds the starter made on the two occasions it worked when I tried to restart the car after the oil issue were not good. It sounded like a pretty clear physical/material issue. Jim is going to look at it when we pull it in the AM to see what’s what.

Also…...In terms of starting...I just had the pleasant experience of starting Jim’s 73 Automatic and it fired up instantly with what felt like a half a turn of the key. Our Type 1 was like that when it had a stock carbureted motor, but our Type 3 has never done that. We’ve had 4 different motors in our Squareback and the only time they start on the first try is after they’ve been warmed up and driven, even with the priming device. Now what’s up with that? I’m jealous!!!
