[T3] Automatic to Standard...

My '71 T3 was once automatic.

Had a parts '72 parts car standard with good trans and engine and put that into the '71.
Biggest trick was...finding where the clutch cable tube was spot-welded to the inside of the hump in the floor of the standard car (a parts car) to salvage a clutch cable tube...then cutting open flaps at just those two sites (on driver's side of the hump)to remove the tube.

Did that by inserting a stout measuring wire into the 4 inch or so rectangle access panel (up front below, behind the axle, near center, below master brake cylinder area) to figure out how far into the hump one should cut a little (3" or so) flap to cut the cable tube loose at two points. Once the front-most attachment point is found, it's easy to stick another measuring wire into the hump to find where the rear-most tube attachment site is...to cut the second flap in the hump.

Those flaps can be pried up to do the work, then banged down and sealed when done...then rug etc put back.
Once clutch cable tube is out of parts car, at those same spots in the automatic car (now without engine and trans), cut flaps in the same spots in the hump...then have a local welder stop over to do two little spot welds to re-attach the clutch cable tube inside the hump.

Sorry....I forget what happens exactly where the clutch cable tube comes out the back to the trans...but it was just something doable.

Then, with the clutch cable tube done (if any of the above is clear), it's on to just installing the standard trans and engine...AND, of course, the standard shifter and standard pedals and all.

Of course, there's some wiring differences...but I didn't have to change wiring harness or anything. I only did this once and forget details...but the clutch cable tube deal was the only real tricky, hard part.

Of course, pretty much, you'll need a spare, standard T-3 handy to get parts from....or a darn good supply source.

Then I sold the automatic trans and engine to someone. I asked for $50, he said no...
$100... so we settled on $75. It's got a good home and it's all outa here.

The ashtray, with automatic shift diagram can be changed then to one with standard shift diagram so as not to confuse car thieves.
I have spare (standard) ashtrays (or as some call then, "spare change drawers") if needed. Various colors.

I also have the "automatic" chrome lettering from the hatch door.

PS: Someone else will have to add to this about whether or not to take the standard car's Control Unit to replace the one in the formerly-automatic, now standardized car. Long time since I did this, and only once...so memory may not be complete.
