Ray,

The 1976 914 originally had a 2.0 Liter engine. The 1.8 is not original to the car.

My guess it has also been stripped of the FI and is now carbed. If so, you cannot just slap on duel carbs. The cam is incorrect.

On a brighter note the engine does have value to the correct owner looking for one.

The cases have become hard to obtain. The crankshaft bearings even more difficult to find.

A 1976 with the correct 2L engine can be collectable.

914 are prone to major rust issues. They are structurally issues along with cosmetic.

Read all you can and examine the care carefully before proceeding.
