I’ve got a stock Type 3 pump with the little white cap and everything. Had it rebuilt a few years ago when I was about to make the swap. 

In other news, the connectors at TS1 aka the sensor in the case were tight and made a good connection. I keep forgetting I have the Bosch EFAW tester. It’s not mine…..I borrowed it from someone who borrowed it from someone, etc. about 2 years ago. I don’t put much stock in what it “tells” me as I always get a different reading depending on how hard I press the buttons but I went through the tests anyway. The only thing that didn’t test out reasonably correctly was the trigger points. I didn’t expect much from a change, but I changed them anyway and, well, there was no change in performance. This is how it was idling after the tests. You can hear it surging and kind of cutting in and out. That’s what it was more or less doing on Saturday but not yesterday. Didn’t drive it on Sunday.

I had no other options left so I put in the last good brain I have…..an “A”. And now the motor runs better than it has in weeks:  great acceleration and power, no missing or stumbling. If my car truly is a “brain killer” than this one should be messed up in the next few days. I also went by my storage unit and rounded up the last of the parts I need for the Solex conversion. Even if I’m just driving the 1k miles to Madison, I already don’t feel comfortable with just one brain given all that has happened in the last week and the misery I’ve had with brains since my last one went on the fritz in November and died in January. The other one made it from January to last week and the one I put in on Saturday works, but doesn’t run the FI correctly.
