[T3] Clutch plate etc

Re/ '72 engine/trans.    Is there any way to tell if clutch is slipping JUST because of old worn Clutch Plate instead of oil from also old Engine Oil Seal?
   Should one automatically keep a replacement oil seal handy when dropping the engine to replace the clutch plate?   Bottom of engine is oily...but oil pressure sensor on top of cooler is kind of leaky.
