[T3] 1971 Squareback F.I. Auto; new engine coming (Stet Sanborn)

The automatic can handle a little more power without any trouble. As posted, I’d replace the gasket between the tranny and differential while it’s relatively easy. Aw, heck repack your CVs and check the boots while you are greasy and in a foul mood!

I am running 1776 and chose to use larger injectors to avoid leaning out at higher rpm. I installed an O2 sensor and calibrated the MPS using a kit that included the tools and special plug. I got it pretty well dialed in now. It was not cheap, but this is my “forever car” so I didn’t mind.

I think some have used the expedient of raising the fuel pressure to get a little more squirt, rather than using larger injectors. You would still have to recalibrate the MPS using an O2 sensor.

Here is a link to the thread describing my adventure:

It may be that rebuilding your engine, maybe with a tad more compression ratio and premium gas, will give you what you need, and not require larger injectors or the MPS recalibration.

Another thing to consider is the state of your FI wiring harness. Mine was crispy and I started getting intermittent failures as described in the thread. I bit the bullet and bought a new one, again pricey but really well-made and it will last me another 45 years I think! If nothing else, cleaning tighten all connectors (the double-rolled-edge parts inside, not the plastic case) and you will avoid some trouble.

Keep us posted!
