I'm not sure what you're describing here. The alternator needs some cooling,
but it sounds like you fixed the "leakage" where the alternator fits against the
pulley housing. That should be enough.
The alternator installations that I've seen require modification of the upper
cooling tin on the left side, to clear the larger diameter of the alternator. If
you had to do this, it would cut down the cooling to that side of the engine.
I'm not a fan of the alternator conversions. There's just no advantage over a
properly working stock generator.

An electric pump installed under the gas tank will certainly fix your problem,
but don't forget to also install the impact safety switch that will shut off the
pump in case of an accident. This is very important. I believe you can buy a
suitable switch as a Ford replacement at your local FLAPS. There's a very
good reason why every new car comes with one of these switches. It could
save your life.
