[T3] type3-vwtype3.org Digest, Vol 85, Issue 4

I have been chastised in the past for not Editing and Trimming posts. Same excuse as Phone users ! No longer have a PC. Only use iPad these days. Takes forever to Edit or Trim by Cutting / Deleting, unlike when using a PC. Hence no further posts.
I recently gave a Pair of good used original Type 3 Outer Scrapers with new Stainless Steel backing strips I home made to another UK Type 3 & 4 Club Member in need.
The Part Numbers on the Outer Scraper Rubbers were :-
311 837 478 A ( Right )
311 837 477 A ( Left )
I bought new assemblys with the bright metal trims from VW ISP WEST for my Body Off Rebuild.

Hello everyone.

I?m helping my daughter with her 72 SB, and she needs to replace her window scraper?s - especially the external ones.

Everywhere I?m looking I only see the external scrapers available with chrome frame.

Is it possible to buy just the rubber for the window scraper and replace that, or does she have to buy the frame as well?

No, they come with new chrome.  Best to buy Bus scrapers & cut them down to
fit.  Take everything apart very carefully as you have to use some of the
original pieces!

I've already pointed out that (most?) smart phones don't seem to offer any
chance to trim posts or change subjects. Unless I'm replying to a short
post, I try not to use the phone, but not everyone has that option.

It seems in the last few weeks there has been an almost total lack of
trimmed posts and properly updated subjects.

We am probably missing important information because we can't find the 5%
useful new info among the 95% of the long threads that are no longer
relevant.  And there is almost no correlation between the subject and the
actual content.

Please folks, pay a little more attention to these points of etiquette.

(end of rant. but you're welcome)

I still cant see how anyone can poke out emails in that tiny little screen,
too cumbersome and annoying for me anyway.  I need a comfy seat, large
screen, real keyboard and some ice tea...
Otherwise its just not worth it!

My phones give me the option to trim the original post. It could be a case of not using an application that allows trimming or enabling the action.

Is it possible to buy just the rubber for the window scraper and  replace

Unfortunately, to get the outer scraper you have to buy the entire  trim
piece. But a good "work around" is using bus inner scrapers like Mike
mentioned. Myself, I prefer to use 68-on bug outer scraper pieces, and  drill out
the rivits, as they seem to fit better. The last set of these I  replaced was
about 9 years ago, and on that car (my old 71 Notchback "Kunchy") I  used a
good pair of type 3 inners. On page 18 of this thread
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=249390 I  did a pictorial
about 1/2 way down that page. Yes they looked a little wavy in  the pics,
but they've since leveled out and are nice a straight. I should  mention that
I basically used hand tools other than the cordless drill, and used  1/8th
inch diameter by 3/16ths inch long aluminum rivits to attach  them.
I hope this helps.

We all wish we could buy just the rubber, but that has not been possible so
far. Maybe someone will make repro rubber available someday. Some
people have been able to buy bus rubber and cut it down to make it sort of
fit. The inside rubber looks like it should work, but the hidden parts are
different enough that this doesn't really work.
