Wouldn't that expand the length of the aluminium crankcase more than the steel crankshaft? It's counter- intuitive, but doesn't the hole expand the same as the metal that would be inside?
I hope it's easy for Keith to fix.

Yes, end play is certainly a possibility. I hadn't thought of it before, but the 
crank is steel while the case and bearings are light metal which expand more 
with temp than steel. Are the Type 4 end play specs the same as ours? If the 
bearing is a bit wider, the spec might also be a bit larger.

And I'm wondering if the flywheel acts like a big heat sink, sucking heat out 
of that end of the crank, which would make the end play even more 
important.

Hmmm, stuff I never thought about before....
