Nice find on the HEs. ;-)

I have stainless steel straps that I cut from sheet many years ago to replace
the OE straps on my cars that were rusting away. They are slightly thicher
(~0.019") than the original (~0.016"), but they fit and work. I have more if you
still have your buckles. The original strapping was zinc plated steel and
came in a long roll, to be cut to length when needed, just like the source
Soren posted earlier.

If you replace your straps, note carefully how each one was installed,
especially how the ends were done and that each band goes around
TWICE.

I'm not sure that ceramic coating will do any good on the outside tin. I've
always found that occasional oil drips from the valve covers soaked into the
jackets and kept the lower part from rusting, but that the upper/front part
stays dry and rusts. I'd oil the outside tin, avoiding the inner, hot, part, then
install the jackets and banding. That may smoke a bit at first, but that's okay
as long as you have the heat off.

I'm off to a friend's shop today to replace the muffler and heat exchangers on
my '73. I can use a lift there, but I still expect this to be an awful job that will
take me most of a day to do well.
