They are aluminum Porsche 3 bolt heads, I dont think any of these engines
use cast iron heads. Oil temps are in the area of 210F.

I'm certainly by a long shot an expert on these T-4 engines . I went back
through Keith's posts and this engine is a Raby 2056 based on a 914GA case.
that's a Porsche case and Raby I assume is a builder or parts source .

I imagine not sure the heads are aluminum and not cast iron . The only
point I bring up is if the engine has issues when hot and turns over fine
when cold , at least that's my take and has 900 miles on it from before it
was installed and if the heads are in fact aluminum isn't it sort of a risk
to pull the spark plugs when hot ? My guess is Jim suggested doing so with
it cold , yet as I said I have no idea what the heads are made of . I just
wonder how the engine gets it's cool air through the fan since it's in a
T-3 body . I've seen a post on Samba about how one fellow built a special
sheet metal cover to adapt the T-4 fan housing's rear most tin to fit the
T-3 square bellows . Perhaps this has been done , I've no idea. Also no
idea what the operating temp is when this issue crops up.
