thats my plan really, the piston and cylinder set has 900mi on them, so they
should be basically broken in and were not a problem on the previous build.

Clutch is good

No Semi-hemi, just stock 914 2L heads.

Everything is fine when its cold, spins right, cranks right, no problem,
only when its at temp... and it free's up fairly quickly, like in 10 minutes
or so after a shutdown.

Not ready to give it up yet.. the Darkness still runs strong here.

1st- get the end play in spec. 3 shims, no less than .004.
2nd- a new engine can take several hundred miles to seat the rings and
settle in. Both heat and friction wise. Especially if you are using
performance rings.
3rd-. Is your clutch adjusted correctly this can cause a 'tight' feeling.
4th- pull the plugs when cold and see if it spins more easily. This isn't
a semi-hemi build.
5th- if you have to pull the engine, loosen the flywheel and see if the
engine spins easier. If so, see #1.
6th-. If all else fails, crate that puppy up and ship it to me. (Inset
Vader laugh here)
