Should be okay, as long as nothing in there will attack organic 
materials. The fiber in there is coir, the stuff between the outer 
husk and the inner shell of a coconut.

There's probably good reason to clean this out, as there's often a 
significant buildup of crud inside the clean air passages. If you do 
this, be sure to scrub those areas out carefully.
