Happened years ago on a trip.  Car just wasn't right. Tidied up connections, re-did points, cleaned this and that, maybe put in new points, plugs, etc.,...and it worked better for a while.  Then back to not so great.
   THEN...after the trip, I thought to just tidy up and re-tighten the Head Sensor. Bingo.  No probs.  Magic.  
    Same thing happened recently for a few weeks.  Did the usual clean connections and all that..but then remembered that Head Sensor.  Tightened it up and...again...bingo...on the road again.
    Apparently past temporary cures were thanks to just accidentally bumping that sensor, while fussing with other things, which got it sensing better...for a while.

So...just sayin'...be nice to your Head Sensor. Should be a Routine Maintenance thing.  If that's famous, never heard about it before.
