The "P" terminal is used in Germany and other countries to power up the "parking" lights.
In Germany, their cars have a side marker light, that turns on (in the "P" position) to warn
others that the car is "parked". This is more commonly seen on early type 3s, as the light
on or above the body side line or trim line.

I noticed the Ignition switch I had sitting here for decades made in Germany also has a P terminal , I didn’t check what it does and it is not used.
