I recently learned in the Keikhafer world, condensers need replacing every
time, they must not be made by bosch. I think I had the original still in
the outboard and its had an intermittant idle/stalling problem for many
years that was likely the condenser.

That's really interesting. Sounds like you did a really good job of
troubleshooting and rooting out the cause of your miss.
Do you know what brand the condensor was? The real Bosch ones are silver
with the Bosch logo and part number stamped on the end. Many of the
non-Bosch (including those sold lately by Bosch but not actually made by
Bosch) are gold/yellow, but there are other non-Bosch silver ones out there.
I've never seen a non-Bosch condensor with any kind of marking stamped
on the body of the condensor.
Have either of your bad ones been Bosch?
Neither Russ nor I have ever seen a bad Bosch condensor. All my VWs
have old, original Bosch condensors and I never replace them. On
distributors that people send me to be rebuilt, I leave the condensor alone
unless the wire needs repairing. I've been known to use part of an
aftermarket wire to repair a Bosch condensor wire.
