6 V VWs had an insulated steel cover over the top of the battery and a 2 part 
strap with a "buckle" that went from one side to the other. The 12 V batteries, 
'67 and later, had a lip on the bottom that served to hold the battery in place 
with the 8 mm plate, washer, and nut that you're used to.
