Any decent hose should last much longer than 2 years in this application. I
seem to get at least 10 years out of the stuff I use. I've used Airequip and
Parker hose, as well as Gates and some other stuff. Airequip and Parker are
excellent. The brand X stuff I got from J C Whitney, decades ago, was poor.

Hose with larger OD will have a larger minimum bend radius, which can be a
problem in some of our locations.

The problem with the euro cloth covered hose is that it's too small. It has to
be stretched too much to get over the fittings. That makes it seal really well,
but that extra stretch puts extra stress on the rubber and that's where it fails.
The euro stuff is 7 or 7.5 mm ID, while the fittings are 8 mm with 9 to 10 mm
bulges. US 5/16" (= 8 mm) ID hose seals perfectly whereever there are
bulges and can be sealed with care even on the 2 places where there are no
bulges.
