Because my 1969 Squareback Cargo Mat has now broken into two pieces, I've
considered several options.

1.) Replacement with a ""repop" Mat. Probably the easiest. But since I'm
a "stocker"... eh, maybe; maybe not. I know, "It's only original, once."
2.) Removal of the entire VW Cargo Mat & buy an oversized liner from
sombody like WeatherTech & use a portion of it to "custom cut a liner".
3.) Find a liquid flexible material (something like Flex Steel Liquid, or
self-leveling driveway Crack Sealer) to adhere the two pieces together,
again. Maybe with a layer of woven Fiberglass fabric embedded in the
liquid.
4.) Carefully pry up & remove the forward portion of thr original VW Cargo
Mat that is held in place by that metal. Then I can use my light tan,
two-piece, custom cut carpets.
(FYI, ... The reason the carpet was made, in the first place, was to
accommodate the available space with the rear seat back in the up or down
position.)

With the rear seatback laying down, there is only 1 layer (not "several")
of carpet above the Original Rubber Cargo Mat.
BUT, admittedly, that layer of carpet MAY have contributed to heat buildup
& making the VW rubber Cargo Mat brittle.

Am I overthinking this? Possably. ;-)

But what else do I have to do with the onset of several months of cold
winter weather here in Wisconsin?

Pick one ... or suggest something else?
