No problem. They have a flat bar inside that gets pinned on one end, and you compress the spring when you close the lid.Bob 65 Notch S w/sunroof

I don't have a Type 34 parts book, and I have to admit that I didn't see the 
little coil springs in the Notch picture. Then I got all confused by how the 
Notch & Fasty model numbers all look alike, and changed in '66, while still 
looking much the same. VW really struggled with their model number logic, 
especially at that time.
