There is a lot of stuff im willing to donate, even some sheetmetal, LMK what your looking for. Some of the early interior stuff and the sunroof assy wont show up in the auction but I can still deliver it to the invasion for anybody that is interested. I also have a stack of rims that will be going to the recycler soon, some early T1 and 2 as well, all can show up in the auction if somebody wants it. I will have the Front end parts along as I'm doing the tech session again and also the FI connector inserts and gasket material for making fuel pump gaskets, bring some scissors and cut off what you need. More things to do in TI: Just a wee bit down the road from Bicentennial park is a great place to do a photoshoot if you have kids, tell them you want a picture of them by the Fort and when you go to the REAL fort and they ask.. THEN you can reveal that "Concrete fort" was actually the sewage treatment plant! I've had fun with this over the years as the plant is shaped just like a fort! If your camping, and cooking yourself, a good portion of the steaks in Walmart are, believe it or not, Restaurant quality! There aren't enough restaurants around to use all the available beef so guess what? Some fantastic BBQ opportunities! Our current plans are based around an earlier post I saw from John Jaranson of arriving in Ticonderoga on Wednesday (6/19). For those interested in meeting up, our trip from Eau Claire, WI will begin on 6/16 (Sunday) where we'll be visiting friends near DeForest, WI. When we leave DeForest on Monday (6/17), if there is still some interest (Gary Forsmo, Jim Adney) we can meet up at Rest Area # 17 (west of Milton, WI) on the I-90. From there we're planning continuing east and south on the I-90 and then head south, west of Chicago along the I-355 South (chance to meet-up with Lance McDonald and/or Marty Salemo?), then east via the I-88 E and I-294 S to catch the I-80/94 E where we'll ultimately catch the I-90 E at Lake Station, IN. We're planning our overnight stay on 6/17 in Fremont, IN. Perhaps we might catch up with John & Jill Jaranson as they loop down and head east from Dearborn, MI. on Tuesday (6/18). I'm estimating we'd be just south of Toledo, OH around 11-11:30am, but we're flexible in our departure time from Fremont, IN if it means we can meet up before Erie, PA as John mentioned something about working on Tuesday. We'd then overnight on 6/18 either in Erie, PA or a bit farther east in North East, PA before heading to Ticonderoga on 6/19. Let me know of any interest and we can work out the details of when and where we can meet up. Star Trek original series set visit: https://startrektour.com/ Noon on Friday but you can go any time they are open that day or the day before if you're an early bird. "THE" attraction in Ti of course is the Fort, https://www.fortticonderoga.org/ Tickets are for TWO consecutive days, so if you're an early bird it can keep you amused for more than one day, this also includes a token for Mt Defiance, Which we will plant to meet at the base at 3:30PM Tokens can be bought at the gate for $10 for those that choose not to visit the fort. We may do a photoshoot up there if weather permits and there is a good spot, as I recall there is. but I was last up there about 20 years ago. Feeling Crabby? The Crab Shack in Crown point is a well known eatery up there about 15 minutes up Rt 9 north of town, Quick lunches or simple dinners? The windchill factory on the south of town is excellent, Ive already warned you about the ice cream cones right? If you missed that. their smallest cone is the size of a large, and nobody, I mean NOBODY, has ever conquered their Large cone and Ive had some Teenagers with large appetites try, and I don't think its physically possible on a hot day anyway! Right next to the park there is Longshots, never tried it, but good for a simple meal, Burleighs is right on the corner and always a good eat just a quick walk from the show. Remember, if you are looking for a part, accessory, fender, whatever Type 3 and want it to show up in the silent auction, let me know by next THURSDAY, 6/13, Ill be pulling the trailer up next weekend and can haul the bigger stuff to the camp a few miles from the event. For Caravaner's, if something pops up on the trip that you need, let me know ASAP before I head up myself on Wed afternoon joining the Midwest caravan, there is a NAPA and advance auto parts in town For stuff that can be sourced that way. Brushes: 10 003 = 1 007 014 117 Starter Drive: 16 032 = 1 006 209 450 Solenoid: 31 062 = 0 331 302 032 There are other Bosch starters that become SR17s for AT aircooled VWs. Except for the 0 001 212 006, they don't all take the same subparts listed above. Nothing I have lists the brush dimensions, but I have some in stock. They come in sets of 2 and are 18 mm long. They are copper colored, probably for better conductivity for high currents. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney at vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* From topnotch at nycap.rr.com Tue Jun 11 18:08:34 2024 From: topnotch at nycap.rr.com (Keith Park) Date: Tue, 11 Jun 2024 21:08:34 -0400 Subject: [T3] auto starter motor In-Reply-To: <6667BBE5.1088.397C7DE@jadney.vwtype3.org> References: <001701dabacf$5ff1a700$1fd4f500$@nycap.rr.com>, <6666F001.5959.3853DA7B@jadney.vwtype3.org>, <001701dabba2$3cf27670$b6d76350$@nycap.rr.com> <6667BBE5.1088.397C7DE@jadney.vwtype3.org> Message-ID: <001a01dabc65$0c94d450$25be7cf0$@nycap.rr.com> Thanks Jim. Im trying to find another pair of the 22mm to match the 2 I have currently, but the 18 would work too. I find it interesting that VW decided that they needed another .1Hp to handle the auto tranny, fine, got that, but they use this same starter in Vehicles up to at least 2L Porsche's and Vanagons. I believe the difference is due to the fact that the torque converter adds a significant amount of load to an AT car. The 2L Porsches and Vanagons are MT. While I agree that 0.1 HP doesn't sound like much, it's still about a 15% increase. It's similar to the fact that fractional HP AC motors are available in 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, (2/3?) and 3/4 HP versions, which may seem like a silly amount of variety, but they are sold in huge quantities to manufacturers who don't want to waste a single penny on something that they buy by the millions. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney at vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* From topnotch at nycap.rr.com Thu Jun 13 19:00:52 2024 From: topnotch at nycap.rr.com (Keith Park) Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2024 22:00:52 -0400 Subject: [T3] Invasion dinner Message-ID: <002501dabdfe$b00bd800$10238800$@nycap.rr.com> We have a Saturday night dinner venue, War Cannon Spirits in Crown point, just a 15 minute cruise up after the show on Saturday https://www.warcannonspirits.com/ we have the loft for the dinner, silent auction and awards. It is going to be yummy! https://www.carartbyjohn.com/2024.../2024SaturdayDinner.html Still have plenty of room available in the Charity Silent Auction if folks want to bring things (Type 3 related or at least VW) to donate and add to the auction. Invaders always go home with treasures and good deals. Don't forget to hit up Keith (topnotch at nycap.rr.com) if you need anything specific from his Type 3 stash. He is generously donating all proceeds to the charity. Just make him a reasonable offer on the parts. Huge shout out to Bruce and Alison Graf at G5 Engraving for creating and donating the engraved plaques for the awards at this year's Invasion. They will be invading Ticonderoga along with the rest of us next week! Just another reminder that you don't have to pre-register for the Invasion. Just show up with or without your Type 3 and enjoy the great fellowship and cars. Jill and I head out in less than 4 days! We picked up Jill's co-pilot, our niece Gabby, in Temperance, MI before making the push to Erie. Had one heavy down pour as we rolled through Toledo but it only lasted a few minutes. Otherwise the weather was surprisingly tolerable from a heat standpoint and the traffic was light. Both cars are getting right around 28 mpg. About 7 hours of driving tomorrow to get to Ticonderoga. Will see how early we get going in the morning. Safe travels to all the other Invaders.
