[T3] poppin out of 4th!

The Squarebacks transmission was rebuilt again by an experienced local
builder a couple years ago after the west coast builders job ground the
input shafts bearing down to a nub.

Worked fine and was very happy with it for the first few thousand miles but
now it occasionally pops out of 4th under moderate acceleration.  This
Tranny has the Bus 3rd and 4th gear in it

For the Freeway flier as it did on the first build with no popping issues,
but he did change out the 4th due to minor damage from the sloppy bearing.

 

Now I know that the old swing trannies would pop out when they wore out but
this is IRS, and nothing in there should be worn with less than 10Kmi on it,


So what could it possibly be?  I have adjusted the linkage at the shifter
(moved the plate forward to make sure its pushed in properly) to no avail,
the rest of the linkage

Is good although the guide bushing below the shifter is worn (as they
usually are).

 

One clue may be that if I make note to get it in firmly it hasn't popped
out, and if its in for a mile, its in for 300miles, never pops out after the
first mile, so

What is SUPPOSED to hold it in gear?  Trannies are a black box for me so Im
trying to get a feeling for what could be wrong by understanding how it
should work in the first place.
