Water really isn't much of a conductor at 12 V, so that's not likely to blow a 
fuse, but corrosion is always an issue. There should be a grey/white seal 
pressed into the channel the lens fits into. Make sure that seal is still present 
all the way around. I have very nice foam cord to replace that seal if you 
need some. It's just a straight length with an opening at the bottom, to let 
water drain out.

There are people selling Mexican knockoffs of the late rear lenses. Those 
are terrible quality. I wonder if that's what you have. Good German Hella 
lenses are out there, and might even still be avaliable from VW. I have some 
good used ones, too. Nothing's as good as the real thing.
