One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier instructions is that the bolt that 
secures the fan & pulley to the crank should be tightened to 94-108 lb-ft. 
This is higher than in a beetle, because of the much longer overhang. If you 
got your torque spec from a generic VW book, it may have given you a lower 
number.

If that bolt is loose, it will make some noise, and also wear the mating faces 
of the fan & pulley, so they don't want to sit straight any more.

Also, the generator belt does not need to be extremely tight. Just tight 
enough to not squeal.
