The test you're doing there is a really good test, with the full flex joint 
assembled and all the parallel paths in play, but a resistance of 228 Ohms 
would only draw 0.053 A (53 mA) at 12 V, which would only be noticable if 
you left the car sitting for a few days. (53 mA draws ~1-1/4 AH per day, and 
our batteries are 45 AH.)

But your DVM only applies ~2 V and "resistors" like this can be voltage 
dependent, so a better test would be to apply your car's full voltage and 
measure the current.

I though I had a couple OE VW flex disks somewhere, but I couldn't find 
them quickly. If I come across one, I'll try to measure it, or I'll just offer to 
send it to you.

I look forward to what you find when you get the other flex disks.
