<DIV>Yes, Russ took a LOT of valuable knowledge with him. I'm just glad I was
able to get the bits and pieces of info that I got. Add in he was a good
friend, and would help anyone, made him special. </DIV>
<DIV>Having been dealer trained, he saw these cars when they were new, and
repaired them at the dealership. According to him, installing AC units after
hours was good extra money for a struggling family man (he made a 100 bucks on
each, and would do 2 a night). He knew most of the "short cuts", and was
always finding ways to improve. As he would always tell us, back then VW's
were for flipping, not keeping (he bought and sold over 40 of them back
then). :O He made good money buying and selling these cars.
<DIV>He probably forgot more about these cars, then most people will ever
learn in their lifetime about them. </DIV>

<DIV>As for writing a book, I don't think you could do it, without it being
about 5 or 6 inches thick. Don't get me wrong, Bentley does a good job of
covering stuff (both Blue and Brown Bentleys), but it also assumes that the
vehicle is only a couple of years old, not 40+ years old, and parts still
available thru the dealer. Now, here we are 40+ years later, the dealer
doesn't stock parts (unless it's still used today), and the aftermarket parts
are hit and miss on quality and fit. There's no way you could accurately
describe fitting a part (like Bentley does), and have an aftermarket part fit
correctly. Somethings yes, but not everything. Just my take on it.</DIV>
