face=Arial>I have a modified 71 that had FI but someone installed Carbs. 32
PDSITs. Now it runs, but runs rich. Further investigation and after reading
the entire debate on carbs vs FI, I now know that is should probably not have
an electric fuel pump as it is running very rich due to fuel making it past
the float valve. Plus, the driver side carb has the idle shut off solenoid,
but the passenger side does not. In fact, there is nothing but a
threadded hole. So, in order for me to go further on this, I need to source
one of these guys and wire it in or get two of what is #19 on the widely
available rebuild parts break down on theses carbs. <BR><BR>Any one have
one laying around that they would be willing to part with? The idle shut off
valve. I am probably calling it the wrong name. In MG terms, it is the Anti
Run On Valve.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>That valve, is called an idle control solenoid. It does exactly like
you're thinking it does, meaning it retracts a plunger, and allows fuel to
flow thru the idle circuit. When the ignition is shut off, the plunger
extends, and fuel is shut off.</DIV>

<DIV>On both my 65 Notch, and my 64 T-34 Ghia, I have the screw in mechanical
version of those electric valves (it's a brass jet with a ball bearing in it).
Most of the good VW parts suppliers stock both. I think Mike Fisher said he
even used a bug version on his 67 T-3, when he found 1 that was bad.</DIV>

<DIV>To find more info on Solex carbs, you'll probably have to buy a Blue
Bentley, as that's about the only real source on them, that I know of. This
link might help as well, if you don't already have it.</DIV>

working set up.
