face=Arial>To elaborate on that "from a 67 type 3" point, not all 32
PDSIT-{2,3} carburetors are the same. VW changed them over the years,
and for best results you should match your engine displacement, number of
intake ports on your heads, distributor, and carbs. For a downgrade from
FI, you'd have a 1600 dual port, obviously. The correct 32 PDSIT carbs
can be identified by a stamping on the outside of the fuel bowl (on the flat
surface, opposite the choke, not in the same area as the "32 PDSIT" markings
themselves). The ones you'd be looking for are marked VW98-1 and
VW99-1. The distributor you'd want to use with them is 311 905
205G.</FONT></DIV><FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" color=#000000

face=Arial>Good points made there, as the jetting changed over the years, as
did other parts of the carbs themselves. Keep in mind that other countries
continued to use carbs after FI was introduced, and some of those have found
there way into the USA too. But carbs built prior to 67 were for single port
heads, and will most likely need to be re-jetted (as Keith found).</DIV>
