<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0"><tr><td valign="top"><p dir="ltr">Transmission in. Started her up and it just sounds like grinding gears. I checked the pump shaft and torque converter three times before I mated the engine and tranny. Did the torque converter fall out if it's holes? </p>
<p dir="ltr">What else do I need to check? </p>

                                        <td valign="top">Well, I got the transmission today. It is an EM case which means 3.91 gearing.<br clear="none"><br clear="none">While I am here at home I decided to pull the output shafts off to see if the type 3 are the same spline count. To my surprise they slid right in...<br clear="none"><br clear="none">NOw I am in a debate with myself. Part of me wants to run it with the 3.91 gears and see what happens to performance, mileage and temperature.<br clear="none"><br clear="none">The other side of me wants to throw in the other differential and play it safe........but safe is not fun.<br clear="none"><br clear="none">I will think it over the rest of my work day and make a decision this evening. Regardless I will have to replace some seals in the new case before I do anything. We will see.<br clear="none"><br clear="none">Thoughts?<br clear="none"><br clear="none">Adam<br clear="none"><br clear="none"><br

 have and let me know so we can be sure.<br clear="none"><br clear="none">The final drive gasket sets include a couple of large paper gaskets, <br clear="none">2 small paper gaskets for the '69 ATs with the final drive covers, an <br clear="none">O-ring for the governor cover and another much larger O-ring that I'm <br clear="none">not sure where it goes.<br clear="none"><br clear="none">I also have complete AT gasket sets for $55. These have LOTs of <br clear="none">little bits and pieces, but do not include any of the <br clear="none">metal-with-rubber-lip shaft seals. They DO include all the simple <br clear="none">rubber piston seals.<br clear="none"><br clear="none">The output shaft oil seals should be something you can find locally, <br clear="none">since they were probably used in lots of VWs from that era.<br clear="none"><br clear="none">Let me know what you'd like to do.<br clear="none"><br clear="none">-- <br
