In looking at Bentley (which I should have done much earlier… duh…my T3 has been running so well for the past 8-9 years I am rusty ;) I see that the later model gauges had springs that were 5mm shorter to accommodate the thicker dash… thus I would have needed to eliminate 5mm of material from the pad, or put on short clips. I won’t hazard a guess as to why the ’71 fuel gauge and my original ’68 both have the same length clips (the long ones) and instead just put on the later model lamp base with the #31 ground.
