You don't want to damage them. Also, keep in mind that a <br>little oil on these helps keep the heat exchangers underneath from rusting. <br>That's why those heat exchangers all tend to rust, up on the upper/front <br>ends, where the insulation doesn't go.<br><br>I have a few very good used (Arizona) heat exchangers of most versions if <br>anyone needs one. Not cheap, but quite reasonable.<br><br>The 4 bands that secure the insulation have all started to rust away by now. <br>If you have the "buckles" that VW used to secure these, I have some <br>stainless bands that I use to replace the broken ones.
