<div class="PlainText">No one sells the VR1 conventional here other than the 20W50 or O'reilly's<br>
which is located 5 miles from me in a bad area. I can order it from<br>
O'reilly's if I want to pay more for the shipping than one quart of oil ,<br>
or amazon who has third party sellers asking close to $12 per quart. So I<br>
got 6 quarts of Valvoline SAE 40 dino premium conventional for less from<br>
Amazon free shipping which is what I used last time.<br>

I spoke to Valvoline and was told the VR1 dino was what they recommend in<br>
an air cooled VW . They did say I could mix them yet each batch has a<br>
window on the ZDDP content could be more or less than stated . Basically<br>
they said there is no way to know what the ZDDP content is if mixed yet it<br>
would be higher if mixed and the two are compatible.<br>

They told me the VR1 does have detergent and has 1400ppm zinc and 1300 ppm<br>
phosphorus . The SAE 40 premium dino has 760 ppm zinc and 690 ppm<br>
phosphorus. I imagine better than half is better than none, and so far I've<br>
had no issues with it. The VR1 is probably fine since it's not long service<br>
oil yet we change at low mileage.<br>

If I could buy the VR1 easily I would yet here in Calif they make this<br>
difficult and I have no idea why the 20W50 is one I can get anywhere.<br>

If I recall since my engine has the German cam broken in it's hardened as<br>
are the NOS lifters I used. Valvoline also told me the O'reilly brand is<br>
not repackaged. Valvoline this is only Napa and a few others.<br>
<br>
I do have just enough VR1 SAE 40 for one oil change I got from O'reilly<br>
this is how I know what the area looks like. I'm not decided if I should<br>
use this and add the conventional to keep the level correct. I am not<br>
convinced the VR1 will not possibly cause issues I do not have now.<br>
<br>
