Got it.  thanks for the clarifications!

Last question:  the bushing has a flat side.  On mine, it's where the split
is.  Does that have anything to do with how it should be positioned?

The Bentley says it's correctly installed "when the slot is at the side".
 Which side?  Or maybe that will be obvious when I get in there to work on
it.
