[T3] Rattling shifter

If I am not having trouble shifting or finding gears, then should I just
leave the stop plate where it is?  I moved it around and it *didn't *get rid
of the sound and it *didn't *make shifting harder.  I could find all gears
no matter where the stop plate was.  So I moved it back to the center.  What
is the proper procedure for adjusting the stop plate?  The Bentley was
somewhat vague.

I do get some rattle/chatter on the stick occasionally when I start from a
dead stop.  Is there a stiffer grease that I should be using in the shift
rod socket to damped that vibration better?  The only moly grease I had on
hand was disc brake grease which I used.  But it doesn't seem to be as stiff
as the stuff that was in there originally.
