[T3] WHY ISNT MY NOTCH RUNNING NOW!!!!!

Hello William (Bill)

Remember me?

I've seen this happen on two of my notchbacks and what you are describing is
one of two things... either the fuel was syphoned back into the fuel tank,
or rust in the fuel line. Whenever I would let the fuel level get below 1/4
tank, the car would sputter and attempt to die. I personally would have your
tank cleaned and epoxy
coated<http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm>(lined). Then I
would clean out the fuel lines and replace the fuel filter.
To see if you are getting fuel to your side-draft, pull the line off the
side of the carb and turn over the motor to see if fuel spurts out. Put the
fuel line in a jar to catch the fuel. If nothing comes out, pull off the
line that goes to the input side of the fuel pump and suck on the hose to
see if the gas is coming thru. Once you have a mouthful of gasoline, spit
out, reattach the fuel line, rinse out your mouth, and try to start it
again. Fill up the tank with Premium Fuel (91 Octane) and see if your car
drives better for a while. Twice I've learned that it was rust in my gas
tank that caused this problem you are describing.

Still have my number, don't be afraid to call me...

Bob

PS: Do not take off the cover of the side-draft to add fuel... if needbe,
take off the air cleaner and shoot "Starter Fluid" in the throttle body.
