Maybe I'm confused, but aren't you the one with the engine that 
occasionally runs really, really rich? If so, you shouldn't expect to 
get normal gas mileage until we can figure out what's causing the 
rich running.

If that's not you, then it may just be short trips and cold weather. 
That always causes poor gas mileage.

And if that still isn't it, then the one weak cylinder or a voltage 
regulator that's letting the system voltage droop down toward 13.5 V 
could be the cause.

Installing the Rabbit switch gives you an extra switch position, then 
you have to re-wire the wiper system, adding in the Rabbit 
intermittent relay. Once you get that whole part of the electrical 
system to look just like the Rabbit's you should have intermittent 
wipers in your Type 3. It's not quite as simple as we may have made 
it sound. I've never done it.
