What numbers did you get?
Most likely it means that you're not taking the reading correctly.
Which terminals were you measuring between in each case? If one
terminal in each case was the HV terminal, equal readings are what
you'd expect, and they'd be thousands of ohms.

Going from an engine that runs to an engine that won't even start, Is
not likely to have anything to do with small changes in timing or
valve adjustment. It's more likely that you bumped something, so that
you're no longer getting either spark or fuel.
