While it doesn't happen often, it could throw a wheel weight in the first
few hundred yards of a journey.  I wouldn't totally discount the
possibility.  Switch front and rear and see if that changes anything.

Tyre pressures - are they something like 20 front and 30 rear?

The mirror shafts are cast - not too easy to repair.

Yep ... spin balanced.  Just before I drove it from Oshkosh to your home on
Yuma Drive for the timing, valve adjustment, brakes, etc.

After you did that, it went "to sleep" up on jack stands for the winter.  It
was NOT on the rubber during the winter.  Can't see how it could have
"thrown a wheel weight" ... but maybe, even on those short (15-mile) drives.

New subject:
I inadvertently broke the "arm" of the right-side mirror off at the pivot
point.   Small (maybe 1/8" diameter/cross-section) post where it goes in to
the ball.  Fixable? or does someone have a source for a new one?
