I can guarantee the 111 was sold in US.  I prepped quite a few of them over the 
years.  The 113 had been the US norn, then the 133 (Super beetle) came out and 
shortly after (maybe 74) the 111 became available in US.

  As far as I know, the 111 wasn't ever sold in the U.S. Like I said earlier, I 
looked at pics of beetles for sale on the Samba, and apparently '68 was finger 
opened, '69-'72 was released from inside, and '73 on were finger operated again. 
I couldn't find any exceptions. They were probably all U.S. cars though.
