This might help explain the defroster workings, but then I already know how
it goes!  Late Type 3 is the upper set of drawings.

Unlike a Beetle, it just blowss up the pillar unless redirected out at floor
level.

Using your whole hand, grab around the "neck" of the mirror and yank it down
and rearwards, sort of toward the seat belt anchors. It should come out, but
occasionally they break.

I don't know of any actual diagram, but, yes, it comes up the door pillars.
