Lug bolts same profile as the surface of the hole surround?

I once got a light clunk noise from a hubcap that was slightly twisted and
needed rotating until it gripped well!  That was a bit puzzling.  Sounds
much like yours.

there seems to be some play in the front wheels, though they are on as tight
as humanly possible!?
