As long as the dwell is within spec, it has no effect on mileage. If 
it gets too far out of spec the engine will start missing and that 
will, of course, knock your gas mileage and performance down. My 
guess at this point is that there was some sort of error in the 
measurement and a longer test will prove it overly optomistic.
