That piece of hose that runs above the starter is at zero pressure 
and has no bends in it. They last forever, but there's no reason not 
to replace it. I certainly would.

You have to cut carefully thru the crimp ferrule just enough to 
loosen the hose and pull it off. Then the remains of the old ferrule 
will come off. The important thing is to not cut into the steel hose 
barb that is under the hose.

I can replace these for you if you like, but it's something you can 
usually do for yourself with a little patience. Once you get the 
first one apart, you'll be able to see exactly what you're trying to 
avoid.

Once the old hose is off, you can replace it with good 5/16" hose and 
almost any kind of hose clamp.
