I've always thought that the bit about #3 running hotter was just a carry-over from pre-doghouse type-1 engines. Not sure if it has ever been true of type-3s ... or doghouse type-1s for that matter.

I've tried Cofap oil shocks. They seem to work OK, but within a few thousand miles one of them began to leak. So I went looking for Boges and found that the Boge brand is now sold by Sachs. So I have a pair of those on the front.

The Sachs/Boge shocks seem to work about like the Cofaps. I can't tell how close to the OG they are, my 205x65/15s are quite a bit heavier than the original tires and increase the unsprung weight.
