I've always felt your original 2002 advice was always good. Take the car
out for a long high speed (Interstate MPH) run for at least 1 hour, maybe
more, and then see how everything is. If you had no issues, you should be good
to go. Daily driven cars actually require less stuff to be brought along,
as they're most likely to have had the necessary maintenance done to them
to keep them on the road. Cars that don't see a lot of miles, are the ones
that really should see some sort of shake down run before putting those kind
of miles on. :O I also plan on taking the T-34 out for an extended shake
down run, once the salt is gone. That of course is after I've made sure
everything else is good to go. ;-)
That said, I like to carry a few items like a quart or 2 of oil, fuel hose
and clamps, spare throttle cable, some wire with alligator clips, fuses,
electrical tape, bailing wire, and assorted little stuff like that, that I
can't find along side the road to make it to the next town.
