IIRC, the third prong is for the brake system warning light in the dash of the later cars. I think you can just ignore it in your case.
Or go to a mechanical switch at the pedal like I did with Sophy.

I have cleaned my senders and my brake lights still only come on with a
hard, hard pedal stop... my 68 has 2 prong senders, but I can only find 3
prong senders. Is the 3 prong a redundant ++ unit or are each prong for a
different item? I need to get this switched out ASAP!
