Hello Bob,

If you would be willing to part with your set of 'fiche for a little while
for me to make a go at scanning and getting them together in a pdf file,
I'd be happy to pay for media mail shipping and even give you a little
something as a 'rental' fee, if you want. Seeing Jacin's post about the Type 3
Wiki, this could be a great addition to that page. I'm imagining being
able to make a single file that one would be able to page through in a pdf
reading program (like Adobe Acrobat Reader or apple's Preview). If this turns
out to be the case, perhaps it could be made available for download from
the wiki site (I'm not good with web design, so I'm not sure how well that
would work). I guess in some ways it would be a little redundant to have
the 'fiche when he's got the parts catalog up on the wiki but it would be
nice to have something that people could put on their computers and be able to
look at multiple pages more easily, as with a book.

Let me know what you think and I can send you my address.

Thanks,Jeremy

I don't have any microfiche. What I've got, are a set of CDs (in pdf
format) that I got from Russ. Russ took the time a couple of years ago to scan
them. I sent a copy of them to Jacin last summer, so that he could add them
to the type 3 Wiki that he started. Jacin converted the pdf into jpegs to
make it a little more user friendly. I figured IF they were on his site, then
others would be able to view it and get some info they needed. Plus, he
was looking for some info to help build the site. This applies to anyone that
owns a t-3.

The idea behind Jacin doing the Wiki was actually Tram's (he's not a member
here, but did go to VW school), as he realized the loss of Russ and the
info he knew was lost as well. Remember, Russ worked on these cars when they
were new (at the dealership), and kept working on them after he retired
from VW, and even after he retired from Mahle. That kind of info is hard to
replace. The idea was to get some sort of record down on the different changes
over the years of t-3 production, so IF someone wanted to, they could
restore a car back to stock, or what some of the needed maintenance might be,
or things like that. The 1500 Club was started like this over 5 years ago to
help preserve the early cars, and Tram was looking at expanding it to
include the later cars as well. But even more so, was the fact that our cars
are 40 (or almost) years old now, and the number of completely original cars
is declining. This is even more so with the 66 and newer cars, as they were
actually produced for sale in the USA. The pre-66 cars were "gray market"
cars here. The remaining "unmolested" cars could also serve as examples as
to what these cars originally came with. At least that was the idea. Jacin
noted that the registry numbers show only about 1100 cars total, and we all
 know that number is low.
