Dry ice might last longer, but the CO2 gas could/would kill you!  Unless you
isolated the car air from the box air I'd advise against this.  You'd also
have to seal the box and vent it to the outside to prevent a buildup of CO2
in the cabin.

An interesting alternative for lower-powered classic vehicles is to have an
ice-box (literally) and re-circulate the cabin air though that!
The electric vehicle forum at
http://www.diyelectriccar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5527 suggests that.
They also confirm the 600W rating needed for electric compressors, but you
have obviously done that research already.
