[T3] *thwaaak* What Was That Sound?

It probably was my suggestion previously - I'm relieved someone else also
finds it happens.

You'd recognise that noise then. I've had a Beetle jump out of gear - on my
brother's Beetle you had to hold the gear-lever when in over-run going
downhill or it would jump out.

Over the years this has been an intermittent issue on my car too.
Over the past 10 years or so this has crept up once every few years.
But every time it surfaces I just go under there and move the drive shafts
in and out sideways several times like you suggest, and it seems to clear
things up every time. I learned that trick on this list -- maybe from you!
Some day when the trick stops working I'll go in and re-grease.

But in this case it sure sounded like the tranny area -- it was *very* loud.
I'm not really sure if it actually slipped out of gear since I put the
clutch in right away after hearing it. I'm hoping I don't have an
opportunity to test this again soon!
