That solution works, but it's really a pain when it comes time to
adjust the valves. Dave didn't have his engine apart, so this was
probably his only realistic option at the time, but with your engine
apart, you should really work to keep those vent ports in the head.
Last night I went to the web site that Jeff suggested:
http://www.avp-worldwide.com
I'd never heard of them and that web site showed the '72-3 Type 3
heads, but didn't make it clear what they were selling. They were
asking $120, plus $11 core charge, per head, which seemed pretty
reasonable if these were complete with valves and springs, but high
for rebuilt bare heads. Nowhere did the word "rebuilt" appear on
their page, but the fact that there's a core charge makes it pretty
clear.
I have the impression that some new heads come with the boss that
could be drilled out to install those ports, as well as the temp
sensor boss. If true, those might be a good option.
Has anyone had any dealings with RIMCO lately? Unless they are no
longer an option, I would look there first.

And their price list is here:

Wow, have their prices ever gone up!!!
All these web sites have more than the usual number of typos,
misspellings, and grammer errors. It seems odd, because you'd think
that someone who could set up a nice web site, would also proofread
it.
